Unbesandten 2018

This commission evolved through a discussion about the uses and perceptions of the forest, the theme of 2018’s Wilde Welt Wald project from BBM. My project was to see it as a refuge, a space between cultures. I built a temporary habitat of survivalist polytunnels where humans protect themselves like seedlings but are also in a displayed coma like the glass coffin in Snow White. The hand printed patterns were invented - a sense of each self defined through motifs. Disposable materials were worked into value through inefficient hand printing. A heavy handmade rope connected the pods. The seeds planted under the pods, courtesy of the Longo Mai co-op, gave the installation a changing form as the season progressed.
