This commission by invitation fromBBM evolved through a discussion about the forest, the theme of their 2018 Wilde Welt Wald project. My choice was to see it as a refuge, a space between cultures. I built a temporary habitat of survivalist polytunnels where humans protect themselves like seedlings but are also in a displayed coma like the glass coffin in Snow White. The hand printed patterns were invented - identity defined through motifs. Disposable materials were worked into value through inefficient hand printing. A heavy handmade rope connected the pods. The seeds planted underneath, courtesy of the Longo Mai co-op, gave the installation a changing form as the season progressed.
