For Wilde Welt Wald, forest installations in Unbesandten, Germany, 2018

Unbesandten 2018
This commission evolved through a discussion about the uses and perceptions of the forest, the theme of 2018’s Wilde Welt Wald project from BBM. My choice was to see it as a refuge, a space between cultures. I imagined a temporary habitat with survivalist polytunnels where humans protect themselves like seedlings but are also in a displayed coma like the glass coffin in Snow White.
The patterns were invented - a sense of each self defined through motifs. Disposable materials worked into value through inefficient hand printing.
The seeds planted under the pods, courtesy of the Longo Mai co-op, gave the installation a changing form as the season progressed.
